EMDR
What is EMDR?
Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR) is a powerful scientifically proven psychotherapy to help people recover from traumatic events in their lives which have led to poor mental health. EMDR is often favoured because it can work faster than traditional therapies and does not require detailed, verbal description of the trauma or adverse experience.
What can EMDR be used for?
I use EMDR as a psychotherapy to work with lots of neurodivergent & queer clients to unpick complex trauma around masking behaviours, feelings of difference, shame and fundamental negative beliefs.

How long does an EMDR session last?
EMDR sessions typically last between 50-90 minutes. This will also be discussed during the consultation.
How many sessions will I need?
Every client is different and it depends upon the goals for EMDR. EMDR is a collaborative process and we can discuss potential number of sessions. EMDR has shown in many controlled studies that it can be achieve quicker reduction in symptoms than traditional talking therapies.
What does EMDR entail?
Therapy involves eight distinct phases, starting with history taking and preparation before moving to active, bilateral stimulation processing which works to desensitise and reprocess traumatic events. You are fully conscious and fully in control of the process at all times. A common misconception of EMDR is that it is similar to Hypnosis, which it is not.
